<\/a>Adult Learners Week in Australia is part of an international festival of adult learning. Each year, Adult Learners\u2019 Week is celebrated with hundreds of events and activities designed to promote the benefits of learning.<\/p>\nAdult Learners’ Week also provides an opportunity for informed discussion about the current provision of adult learning in Australia and to consider what improvements are needed to take Australia forward.<\/p>\n
For over 30 years, ALA has coordinated Adult Learners’ Week, including:<\/p>\n
\n- managing the Adult Learners’ Week digital assets \u2013 website and social media presences, including an ALW events directory<\/li>\n
- creating a public relations and media campaign for Adult Learners’ Week, including running an ALW launch<\/li>\n
- designing and distributing resources for adult and community education organisations around Australia, including promotional material and collateral such as posters, bookmarks and shareable digital content<\/li>\n
- managing Adult Learners’ Week competitions for learners and providers<\/li>\n
- developing toolkits and resources for organisations to use during the Week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

<\/a>Adult Literacy and Numeracy Practitioner Program<\/h4>\nIn partnership with ACEVictoria, Adult Learning Australia developed the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Practitioner Professional Development Program.<\/p>\n
This 20 hour online PD program is aligned with the Department of Education and Training (now Department of Jobs Skills and Regional Development) in Victoria’s ACFE Board\u2019s Strategy<\/a> and their commitment to support the capability and capacity of Learn Local providers to deliver pre-accredited literacy and numeracy programs.<\/p>\nOver 270 pre-accredited literacy and numeracy educators in Learn Local organisations have participated in this training.<\/p>\n
Alongside this, ALA developed the ALNPP Koorie Module in partnership with VAEAI. ALA has hosted, maintained, and facilitated ongoing access for Learn Local pre-accredited practitioners, supporting their continued growth in adult literacy and numeracy teaching skills. This initiative positively impacts adult learners, particularly Koorie learners, <\/strong>by enhancing the quality and effectiveness of the teaching they receive.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>Digital Divide<\/h2>\n\n\nCyber Security Awareness Support for Vulnerable Groups<\/strong><\/p>\nThe professional development program, delivered through\u00a0 a variety of learning modules, is designed specifically for s<\/strong>taff, volunteers, and educators in the adult and community education sector.<\/p>\nThe modules provide educators with the knowledge and practical tools to adapt and tailor content for adult learners who face barriers to learning, including vulnerable learners. The content is flexible and can be applied in face-to-face classrooms, workshops, or community-based learning settings.<\/p>\n
By building educator confidence and capability, the program supports vulnerable learners to engage in meaningful, purposeful learning that responds to their individual needs.<\/p>\n
The program is delivered in partnership with the Australian Neighbourhood and Community Centres Association (ANCHA) and funded by the Department of Home Affairs.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>

<\/a>The aim of Learn Local digital strategy is to increase awareness of the Learn Local brand, increase participation and improve the online presence of the sector more broadly.<\/p>\nThe Learn Local project is about creating and managing digital assets for the Learn Local network and to encourage participation by existing learners and promote Learn Local to potential learners.<\/p>\n
Adult Learning Australia coordinates this project in partnership with Neighbourhood Houses Victoria (formerly ANHLC).<\/p>\n
Our role is to develop and\/or maintain the following Learn Local digital assets, which include:<\/p>\n
\n- a website<\/li>\n
- public social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Wikipedia<\/li>\n
- closed social media platforms, including Facebook Group and Wikispace.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

\n- neighbourhood houses and community learning centres<\/li>\n
- community colleges<\/li>\n
- other locally based, not for profit organisation who offer adult education programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Adult Learning Australia worked with several partners including Coonara Community House, Byron Region Community College and the Alternative Association of Australia to develop useful resources for community education providers who want to learn more about energy efficiency.<\/p>\n
